Many tourists consider Rio de Janeiro as being the most beautiful city in the world. Surrounded by the Guanabara Bay in the East, the mountains in the West and North, and in the South by 35 km of beaches, Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil, with more than 7 thousand inhabitants. Only the city of São Paulo is bigger in terms of size. Rio´s inhabitants are called cariocas.
Weather
Despite the fact that Rio is situated near the Tropic of Capricorn, there is a variety of climates. Its location by the coast helps to moderate the temperature between one season and the other. The annual average temperature of Rio is approximately 100ºF (31ºC), and could get to 126ºF (40ºC) during the month of February, and 65ºF (18ºC) during the month of July. When one thinks about Rio de Janeiro, the first things that come to our minds are: the sun, the sand and the most famous beaches there are. From North to South, the beachers are: Flamengo, Botafogo, Urca, Praia Vermelha (Red Beach), Copacabana, Arpoador, Ipanema, Leblon, São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca. Going to the beach everyday is a constant feature in the carioca way of life, and it´s where people can meet each other from dawn to dusk.
