The Carnival party happens from Friday until Ash Wednesday. It´s one of the most famous manifestations of the world, with the Samba Schools parade, fancy dress ball, and some local bands´ parades. If you want to join in the fun and go along with this lively and cheerful party, come to Rio de Janeiro. Put on your mask, dress up as you wish and get ready to celebrate! Samba Schools
The Samba schools are famous institutions which attract more than 200.000 dancers. In the old times, the parades used to take place in the streets of the city center of Rio, but not anymore. In 1984, the schools started to parade in the new Avenue named Sapucaí.
Avenue
An avenue with more than 600 meters of open-air constructions, with stands and chairs at one side, and boxes at the other. The Cariocas started calling it “Sambódromo”. The coreographies presented by thousands of participants are based on Brazilian themes. The music is composed in order to inspire dancers and public, and make everybody in Rio know the songs lyrics and sing along.
